Wind and Loud Music
It seems like winter is finally here. Maybe not. There is never a real winter in Israel, just several cold days that happen to be sometime between November and March.
This morning we woke up to loud thunders. My cats were upset by the noises and reacted accordingly. Sebastian crawled under the duvet and did everything he could to get as much attention as possible and Belle went out wondering in the rain.
My initial observation of the weather when I got out of the building this morning was one of indifference. Just another rainy day. However, a few hours later my observations were proved to be an underestimation. A friend driving in the area reported that some of the main roads around my house have been blocked due to flooding, and the blinking clock on my stove suggested some power failures.
Now I’m sitting in the little shoe box I call my home. I hear the windows shaking, and from time to time a big bang suggests something outside has surrendered to the strong winds.
It’s nice and warm inside, sitting with Belle and Sebastian and a cup of hot tea. I turn the music up loud to cover the noise of the shaking windows. And ignore all the bad news reported outside my bubble.
I feel safe.

Vegetarianism Lives On
Recent UK statistics shows a decline in the number of people becoming vegetarians, and an incline in the number of vegetarians who go back to eating carcasses.
Like any other lifestyle, adopting vegetarianism can be a matter of fashion. But fashion does not reflect on the people who truly believe in the specific lifestyle or religion and therefore statistics related to lifestyles are not reliable, unless they are coupled with other fashion-related statistics.
Vegetarianism is not the new black anymore, and I’m proud to be one of the people who stick to it as a way of unfashionable life.
Go Veggie!

Busy Times
I have not forgotten you, dear readers.
I have been very busy in the past few days. Both at work and working on Deviant Brainwave. I have been trying to implement a top of the range commenting system, but it’s taking a lot of time. Mostly because I only get to it late in the evening, when I’m too tired to get my brain working properly.
Meanwhile, some comments were posted on Deviant Comments so check them out.
You’ll get a lot more of my ranting soon enough…

Silly Awards
Yesterday I stumbled across an article about the Bad Sex in Fiction Award.
The Bad Sex award just draws attention to a book carrying one of the worst descriptions of a sex act in a modern novel.
The aim of the prize is “to draw attention to the crude, tasteless, often perfunctory use of redundant passages of sexual description in the modern novel, and to discourage it”.
This means that someone actually has to read through these books and determine what is a good and what is a bad description of a sexual act. I’m wondering what they are comparing it to. Not real life for sure. They would probably prefer a cup of tea and a good book.
Some people have way too much time on their hands.

Deviant Brainwave News
I finally have my own hosted space! I am now in the process of transferring Deviant Brainwave to its new home, which means there might be a few technical problems in the next few days.
Once it will be up and running (as soon as possible, I hope), it will no longer be possible to access Deviant Brainwave through blogspot, so please update your bookmarks to http://www.deviantbrainwave.org/

Sexy Thing
In a recent entry in his diary, Stuart Murdoch gave the readers an assignment – to write about something they found sexy, which is not necessarily sex. Something that is not obvious, but still makes you weak at the knee. I read only few of the responses and they were very interesting. When I was trying to think about it, I came up with so many things that I thought I’d better post them here than just select one to send away:
- Sweet complements given for the right thing and at the right time. Not the ones that are forced on a day that you know you look tired and your hair is messy that come out cheesy, but the genuine ones that come from the heart.
- An old-fashioned gentlemanly gesture. But only when the balance is right and it doesn’t feel like a suggestion of incompetence.
- A sexy text message in the middle of the day, out of nowhere. The kind that makes you blush in a middle of an important meeting.
- A real surprise. A gesture of generosity made because he saw something or heard something that made him think about you and wanted to do something about it.
- A caring cuddle when you had a bad day at work. And just showing that he cares and understands.
There are more, but for now, they will remain the little secret saved for my and my boyfriend.
Food for thought…

The Truth About E’s
Have you ever read the list of ingredients on a packet of crisps? Or maybe a box of cereal? Have you ever thought about those big E-something numbers in those lists and wondered what they meant?
Those scary E numbers were actually set by The European Commission for Food Safety in order to make life easy on consumers across Europe, and to standardise the names of all food additives. I guess the thought was that if you read the word Citric Acid in any European language you may not understand what it means, but if you read E330 you’ll know immediately. They probably didn’t notice that E330 is not very descriptive. Europeans… go figure.
The truth is that not all the E numbers represent harmful content. Some of them can be quite healthy, like E300 (Vitamin C) for example. However, those numbers can hide a lot of horrible truths, like substances that may cause allergies and products of animal origin (Veggies beware!)
This list details all the E numbers and what they mean. Read it carefully! Products of animal origin are marked, as well as products that could cause allergic reactions and GM products.

New URL for Deviant Brainwave
I have a new domain name for Deviant Brainwave.
You can now redirect through http://www.deviantbrainwave.org and email me at deviant AT deviantbrainwave.
It probably doesn’t mean much now, but it will be useful when I get around to sort out proper hosting. Hopefully it will happen soon. I’ll keep you posted.

Coldplay Live Review
On Sunday night I was given a special treat by MTV2 and Xfm with a simultaneous broadcast of a recording of a recent Coldplay gig at Manchester M.E.N. Arena.
The night started on Xfm with Coldplay on The Hijack, and continued on MTV2 with 40 minutes of excellent live music. I know the experience of watching a gig on television is not quite like being there, but this was as good as it can get.
The show started with Politik, and from the first moment Coldplay managed to excite a huge arena full of fan who was joining in. Chris Martin seemed to be astounded by the success that brought him there and kept referring to bands who really do seem to belong more in such a huge place. Trouble was introduced as a Westlife style song disguised by an indie band, and the response to the audience’s amazing sing along was “Oasis would be proud of you”.
However, as the show progressed, it was no longer a disguise of anyone or anything and Coldplay were right at home. The current single, The Scientist, was received warmly, followed by Yellow, performed mostly by the crowd.
This was then followed by the brilliant Everything’s Not Lost, One I Love, Clocks and In My Place.
It was great. It could have been better if MTV2 could air the whole show and include the support by Idlewild, but I guess you can’t ask for everything…
I wish I could be there in person.

Ms. Deviant Brainwave
