A Step towards Freedom

Earlier this week, I decided it was time to break free.

No more waiting for people who happen to drive to the direction I need to go to. No more asking Veggie Vampire to drive me around. No more wishing I could go somewhere but giving up because I can’t get there.

So, yesterday I had my first scooter driving lesson. How exciting!

I only learned the basics, but I already feel a little more independent.

My mum, of course, thinks I’ve gone crazy, but I’m sure she will get used to the idea soon enough. Meanwhile, I promised that I’m not buying a scooter yet, just getting a license, thus, postponing her need to freak out.

My ride-begging days are over! (Maybe not yet, but will be soon).

Live Music in Israel!!!

I’m in total shock! The Wu-Tang Clan have announced a tour in Israel! Now! When there’s a war going on!

The Red Hot Chilly Peppers cancelled a couple of years ago when it wasn’t even half as bad as things are now, but the Wu-Tang Clan definitely have the guts. This is wonderful news!

I must admit that I’m not a big Hip Hop fan, but I will be considering going to that gig, after all, gigs are so rare around here. I’m looking forward to the dates announcement.

As Promised

I promised not long ago some pictures from our flowers watching trip to Beeri (and thanks TopKnot for reminding me).

I’m sorry about the delay. I’m afraid I’m still using an old fashioned film camera (which I borrow from my mum), so it takes a while to finish the film, get it developed and scan the pictures. I’m working on the digital camera thing…

So, here they are… the desert in bloom, a lot of flowers, and the ANZAC Memorial. Enjoy, and click on the pictures for the larger view.

A Good Reason To Get A Webcam

Blur’s redesigned site was recently relaunched, with all the old favourites, like Alex’s diary, Dave’s Q+A and the films section, as well as the wonderful new Think Tank.

The Think Tank is a collection of webcams worldwide who just refresh from time the time, with Blur’s music in the background. What a good way to get out there! I’m seriously considering getting a cat-cam to put up there.

Or maybe just something like the platycam?

Fairy Tail In New York

Or is it a mermaid’s tail?

Here’s a story that put a smile on my face today, and you know me well enough to recognise my sarcastic smirk anywhere, I’m sure.

In New York, a fish has started talking, revealing that the end is nigh.

“According to two fish-cutters at the New Square Fish Market, the carp was about to be slaughtered and made into gefilte fish for Sabbath dinner when it suddenly began shouting apocalyptic warnings in Hebrew.”

I especially liked the response of the fishmonger quoted in the BBC:

“Ah, enough already about the fish,” Mr. Rosen said.

“I wish I never said anything about it. I’m getting so many calls every day, I’ve stopped answering. Israel, London, Miami, Brooklyn… they all want to hear about the talking fish.”

A Grimm’s fairy tale comes true.

Or is it another attempt at religious missionary activity in the US? I mean, the president seems to be doing such a good job, but maybe just for the wrong religion?

A Gorgeous Day Out

We took a day off today, just to relax, and take a short trip.

We drove down to Beeri to see the desert in bloom and the ANZAC memorial. It was gorgeous, so many flours and birds!

Just spending a quiet day together was magic.

Pictures coming soon.

A Bit of a Movie around a Lot of Holes

Actions movies are usually not my cup of tea, but last night we took a last minute decision to see The Bourne Identity.

The Bourne IdentityThe movie itself was not bad. The acting by Matt Damon is always good, but Franka Potente really took the spotlight. The movie kept me on my toes for some parts, and got me laughing in others. However, I’m not sure the bits I found funny were really meant to be funny.

Being the horrible cynic that I am, I couldn’t help laughing at the many holes in the plot. (Veggie Vampire says everything will probably become clear by reading the book). For example: How did a laser pointer with a Swiss bank account details got into Bourne’s hip? Why would anyone want to put it there? Last time I was in Switzerland was a long time ago, but as far as I can remember, it is not part of the EU and still has passport checks on the way in and out, so how come Jason and Marie were not stopped on the way to Paris? Also, for France, there were a lot of British people around. I think it may be the Hollywood way of making the movie half believable, while keeping the language party understandable for Americans.

I’m sure many more holes can be found by anyone who pays enough attention to details. Maybe many of them will be during my favourite scene of the car chase through the streets of Paris, which proved to me once again the wonders of small cars, and my deep affection to anything Smart.
