I might have left this post with its title alone, because the word “incoherent” just says it all. It is the most accurate description of my feelings recently.
On the one hand, it is physical. There are strange symptoms that attack me in the middle of the day. On the other it is mental. I feel down, and there are so many things on my mind.
I don’t know which causes what, and whether the egg preceded the chicken or the other way around. I also think it might be related to the weather or pollution. Either way, I should probably get it checked out.
Anyway, this might explain my lack of inspiration and the reason there hasn’t been much activity here in the past couple of weeks, so please accept my apologies.

The things I am capable of doing when bored sometimes cause even me to wonder. However, I have been sick for a few days now, and there’s a limit to how much I can sleep, read and watch the telly. I hate being sick!
So, you may remember that recently I wrote about a ghost from my very far away past that resurfaced recently (though still keeping silent, and a good thing it does). That incident got me thinking about what happened with any of my other exes that I no longer keep in touch with, but it wasn’t important enough to actually follow through.
However, this evening I was bored, and boredom leads to stupid behaviour, so I thought: “let’s Google some names up!”. I tried to think of full names of some exes, but could only remember one (I’m bad, I know). I must admit that what I found out was far from interesting, but it did kill about half an hour. I now know that there’s another guy with the same name that’s doing a lot more online, and that my ex had a blog a couple of years ago in which he only posted three times. Not exciting at all. I need to find better ways to pass my time.

I sometimes have the tendency to develop conspiracy theories. Today there was another one occupying my thoughts.
In today’s news fix, I read that The Shins have been doing very well in the Billboard chart, entering at number two with their new album, Wincing the Night Away. Not bad for an indie band! Well done to them! However, I remembered that the album has been around for a while, so I checked the archives (i.e. Wikipedia), and came up with this: indeed, the album leaked online back in October, causing much panic in the offices of their label Sub Pop Records. So much, that it set them off calling in some big guns to hunt down the offenders. Yet, the leaked files reached many bloggers who wrote in great length about how good the album his, inflating quite a hype. This probably helped to get the album such a good sales figure on its first legitimate week of publication.
So, what is my theory? The records label did it! Yes, my guess is that they realized they have such a good album in their hand, that it can do the hard marketing work by itself, saving them the costs and building revenue. They released a partial, low bit-rate version out, started the hype, and there you go - the highest chart placing ever for Sub Pop Records.
My conclusion from the whole story is that leaking is not such a bad thing, and file sharing only builds confidence in the quality in the music, because at the end of the day, if we really like it, we will buy the record (as guyha puts it very nicely - in Hebrew). It means that the record labels can’t sell us mass-produced shite as a cat in the sac, and that indie labels and artists get their fair chance.
